Once a place designated for posting notes of public interest billboards
have grown in scale, spectacle and sheer quantity. Not only has their
physical scale increased, but they also reach further in time and
space by being backlit.
These large format black and white images are part of an ongoing project
where the specific photographic technique of long exposure is applied
to subvert the advertisement. They transform individual billboards from
conveyers of calculated messages to visually striking voids pregnant with
possibility, opening up to allow a slower and more profound process of
contemplation of the rare and eerily beautiful urban sight.
